OCTOBER

FEATURED PROGRAMS

Back to Basics: Growing your small business. Tuesday, October 7th, 6:30 – 8 pm.

Discuss issues such as starting, marketing and troubleshooting your small business with Richard Sakanashi of Sakanashi and Associates. Registration Required.

Beaches Reads 2014. Tuesday, October 14th, 7 – 8:15 pm.

Kingston Road Village concert series, in conjunction with Toronto Public Library, presents Beaches Reads 2014. Read “An Equal Music” by Vikram Seth, and take part in a lively discussion led by TSO musician Tim Dawson or CBC’s Tom Allen.

Teen Program: Game Night. Friday, October 17th, 4 – 5 pm.

Calling gamers to join in for a game night and play against each other. Ages 13 and up.

NaNoWriMo: tips for getting started and staying with it. Saturday, Oct 18th, 10:30 – 12 pm.

Are you wondering if you’ve got a novel in you and and want to get it out? Ever heard of NaNoWriMo? Join one of Toronto’s veteran NaNo novelist at Ashdale Writers Group who introduces the idea of writing a novel in 30 days. How its possible, and how the NaNoWriMo community can help you achieve your novel writing potential.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 50th Anniversary. Saturday, October 18th, 2 – 3 pm.

Enjoy treats and activities as we celebrate 50 years of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. All are welcome.

Halloween Party. Thursday, October 30th, 4 – 5 pm.

Explore the haunted room in the library, create scary crafts and show off your Halloween costume on the fashion runway. No registration required. All are welcome.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Adult Chess Club (For ages 13 and up): Saturdays, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Come and play casual chess with other like-minded players. No experience or registration required.

Adult Crafternoon: Mondays, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Knitting, sewing, or quilting? Drop in and meet a group of crafty people who teach and learn from each other. Bring a project that you are working on or pick up a community project in our neighbourhood friendly environment.

Ashdale Writers Group: Alternate Saturdays (Oct 4thand 18th), 10:30 am to Noon.

Drop by and meet others at this community writers group. Bring a piece of writing to share, review and comment on others’ writing, and talk about the process.

Gerrard Ashdale Book Club: Thursday, Oct 30th, 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

If you enjoy reading a range of literature and talking to others about books, this group is for you. October selection: “The Secret Agent” by Joseph Conrad.

TEEN PROGRAMS

Teen Program: Game Night: Friday, October 17th, 4 – 5 pm.

Call for gamers to join in for a game night and play against each other. Ages 13 and up.

Youth Advisory Group (YAG) (Ages 13 to 19). Friday, October 24th, 4 – 5 pm.

Make friends and earn volunteer hours while helping us to create a better library for youth in the community. Youth volunteers needed. Registration required. Call us at 416-393-7717 for more information or reply to this email.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Kids Book Club (Ages 8 – 12 years): Wednesday, October 22nd, 4 –5 pm.

Join to read, talk and play a game related to the book of the month! Sign up to become a member.

Leading to Reading (Children in grades 1 – 6): Mondays, 5 – 6 pm.

Children receive individualized help with reading and writing homework for one hour per week. Note: Program registration is currently full. However, we are still accepting applications for waitlist.

LEGO Club: Thursdays (starting Oct 2nd – Oct 23rd), 4 – 5 pm.

Come and explore the wonderful world of Lego building. For ages 6–12 years. Registration required.

Toddler Time (19 months to 3 years): Wednesdays, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

(Upcoming dates: October 1st, 8th & 15th). Enjoy stories, songs and finger plays for toddlers with their caregivers or parents. Drop in, no registration required.

Baby Time (0 to 18 months): Wednesdays, starting Oct 29th, 10:30 – 11:00am.

Enjoy stories, songs and bouncing rhymes for babies with their parents or caregivers. Drop in, no registration required.

WOODGREEN COMMUNITY SERVICES PARTNERSHIPS

English Conversation Circle: Tuesdays, 1:30 – 3:00 pm.

Practice Conversational English. Newcomers and local Canadian volunteers sit together for an information conversation about culture, food, local events, travelling and many more interesting themes.
